TBC visited the studio yesterday, July 6, 2023, and had the opportunity to explore the studio’s state-of-the-art technology and facilities. The visit allowed TBC to see advances in 3D and robotics technology while also giving DIIT and CoNAS the opportunity to showcase their innovative studio. Mr. Fikiri Silvin Matatizo, a third-year BSc. Education (Physics and IT) student, answered all the journalist’s questions.

Questions ranged from what 3D printing is to its significance at SUA and in the community at large, as well as how the technology can benefit students after they graduate. Mr. Matatizo explained during the interview that 3D printing is the process of creating physical objects from a digital design by layering materials. He emphasized its significance at SUA, stating that it enables rapid prototyping of various models for teaching, learning, and research purposes, and that it improves practical learning in subjects such as engineering and architecture, as well as educational materials such as teaching aids.

Mr. Matatizo, who represented other students working on several innovative ideas in the studio, not only answered questions but also demonstrated his knowledge and expertise in 3D and Robotics technology. The level of innovation and creativity displayed by the students in the studio impressed the TBC journalist. Finally, Mr. Matatizo presented a surviniour printed in 3D with the words TBC.
